This is my first entry in this blog. You will have to overlook all the mistakes and the unprofessional way I am doing this. We have been in St.Petersburg since last Saturday night (today is Thursday 3rd February 2011).
It is actually the first day that we have done anything touristy. Our yacht is still in the boat yard with the bottom still being fixed. The weather forcast was for possiblitiy of rain yesterday and today and so nothing could be done to the bottom because the gel coat has to be absolutely dry. Hopefully tomorrow is better. Yesterday it did not rain at all but today we had a bit in the morning. We have this car that the fellow who owns the boat yard has given us to drive so we went 'down town' to the chamber of commerce (tourist information) and from there got guided to the down town trolley with which you can get a tour around town and get familliar. This was great I juststarted eating my apple when this thing arrived and hid it so the driver could not see that I was eating something as you usually are not allowed to do this. Rocky wanted to sit up the front and ofcourse the driver had a clear view and I had to first read everything on the trolley before I could continue eating. Anyway that was all good and we decided to go and see the Chihuly gallery. This is a famous glass artist and the collection was mind blowing. So huge were the pieces and lots of them were installations. We were ofcourse not allowed to take pictures but if you have a chance to look him up on the internet it will be worth while. We saw a film of him setting up an installation in Jerusalem in front of the wall of David. Amazing does not describe it so you will have to have a look yourself. On the way there we stopped at several little shops and one of them was an American indian art shop where I bought a lovely card for my friend Jeanne who's birthday is coming up and she always sends me lovely cards and I never. The plants here are very colourful and everything is very well kept and also colourful. Toilets with every eating place unlike often in Australia. They call them rest rooms though I knew that expression but I never understood why rest room because it is far from resting I think. Anyway it was a lovely afternoon and we finished it by going on the pier and having a drink on the 5th floor of the building at the end of the pier. It was happy hour and I had a margarita with salt on the rim of the glass. Not my cup of tea (figuratively). Now we are back at the hotel and we are going back down town soon to go to the movies something with Matt Damon. Hopefully tomorrow will be good day for the boat and we will be getting closer to leaving.
